The independent communication authority of South Africa (ICASA) is the regulatory authority of South Africa’s national broadcasting, communication and postal services. All wireless products must obtain ICASA certification before entering the South African market. For wireless communication equipment exported to the South African market, it is necessary to apply to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) for type certification, and can only be sold after approval. This is also equivalent to the application for ICASA certification in South Africa for domestic network access model approval. It should be noted that ICASA certification can only be issued to local registered companies or representative institutions in South Africa. Therefore, it is better for domestic manufacturers to apply for ICASA by local importers, but the test can be completed in China.

Application process

  1. Prepare the documents to be submitted, including application form, declaration of conformity, customs clearance letter (LOA)
  2. Contact the local office in South Africa;
  3. Submit the permit application form to ICASA;
  4. Delivery certification fee;
  5. Obtain type approval certificate.

Certification stage

The type approval and liensing process consists of the following three phases:

The following information and documents must be submitted with the application form for type approval:

  1. 2 color pictures of product photos (copying is not acceptable

  4. RF+security+EMC report: in PDF format or copy text or CD;
  5. The circuit diagram shall be approved and stamped by the testing agency, and all revised clauses shall be highlighted.

  1. English test reports (RF, EMC and security) issued by qualified laboratories must be in PDF format or burned to CD. ICASA does not accept the original report. Its testing requirements for wireless products such as mobile phones are basically consistent with CE certification.
  2. About applications and fees
    The application form should be completed and signed. The application form must be accompanied by the remittance receipt of the application fee.
  3. Technical data to be submitted
    Instruction manual, circuit schematic diagram, PCB layout, component location diagram, block diagram, technical manual, equipment photos, etc.
  4. The type approval certificate is only issued to the local registered company or institution in South Africa. Therefore, the company registration number, address, telephone number and other information should also be provided.
  5. For mobile phone model approval, in addition to all relevant reports, the importer also needs to provide “Proof of Origin” and a statement that this batch of mobile phones are not stolen stolen goods (in the format of the applicant’s company stationery)
  6. A certificate can only record 4 models at most. It is not allowed to use * * or xy instead of other letters or numbers. 7. ICASA labels are pasted on the packaging box. The finished product labels are purchased by the certification authority or the customer chooses to print by himself, but the self-printing needs to be issued with a certificate, and then take the customer’s statement to ICASA for approval. Generally, it is handled by the importer itself.
